Hunting the elusive Grey ghost of Africa.. The Kudu.
In Ernest Hemingway’s book the green hills of Africa he talks about how scarce the Kudu is. It leaves for a great story but as many other great Africana writers and hunter since him have said it was so elusive to him because he just wasn’t hunting in the right areas.
This is probably true as if you are hunting in a area that has good kudu number you will see them quite regularly but the big bulls are elusive and just like anything else they don’t get big by being dumb. The 60” mark is like a 200” Muley or 400” bull elk a big bull having at least two and half spirals with parallel or flaring tips is a sign of a fully mature bull. A kudu bull with these two and a half twist with an orange size hole or bigger when looking down from the tip will surely stretch the tape close to that magical mark.
